It’s the same in the spiritual sense. Spiritually speaking, the heart is the control center of our life. It is the center of our thoughts, emotions, desires, and actions. The war has been won. Jesus won and we win. Now…the battles continue, and we must be battle-ready.We have learned that the battle comes from three fronts: World. Flesh. Devil. In our temptations, one source may take the lead. It may be Satan taking the lead, the culture we live in enticing us, or the desires of the flesh. But all three are always involved in the battle. We learned from 1 Cor 10:13 that God will always give us what we need in every test and temptation.Last time, we considered Genesis 3 where Satan's temptations came in the Garden. He led man to doubt God, become disillusioned with God, and finally, give into the desires of the flesh. After creating man, God graciously provided all the trees of the garden for food. However, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was prohibited. God said, “for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Gen. 3:17). The fruit was not poison. The tree offered man a choice to obey God or disobey him. This free will stemmed from God’s perfect love. Love cannot be demanded, forced, or coerced. Man is not artificially programmed. The LGBTQ+ discussion must be addressed from Scripture with truth, love, gentleness, and respect. Jesus demonstrated great compassion to the woman at the well who had had five husbands and was living with a man at the time. He offered her “living water” (John 4:1-45). He healed a Roman Centurion’s servant (Matt. 8:5-13). Roman soldiers were known for their cruelty, oppression, abuse, and debauchery. Was this man different? A tax collector, in Jesus’ day, was a despised Jewish man who had sided with the Roman government for the purpose of oppressing fellow Jews and living in luxury. Jesus called Matthew, a tax collector, to be one of his disciples (Matt. 9:9-13) and called another chief tax collector down from a tree and had dinner with him and his friends (Luke 19:1-10).Jesus demonstrated perfect compassion and never backed down on the truth. That is also our calling (Eph. 4:15, 1 Pet. 3:15).So, what is the truth about the practice of a same-sex lifestyle? Last time, we considered Genesis 1:27-28, 2:18, and 2:24. In this message, we will continue to consider passages from the Old and New Testament. Is a same-sex couple in a loving monogamous relationship in line with God’s ideal and design? What does Jesus say about a same-sex relationship? Should I attend a same-sex marriage?
