Living in the Hyphen (LITH)

Leo Taylor-Jannati

In an age where everyone is meant to fit into a specific box, the Living in the Hyphen (LITH) podcast is an exploration of what it means to be living between two worlds.

Each episode of LITH touches upon a specific theme with the guest being the centrepiece around this.

LITH explores matters around race, sexuality, gender, religion, art, culture, politics and any subject where one could be caught in a dichotomy and ‘living in the hyphen’.

Our main goal with the podcast is to create a unique and successful brand around ‘living in the hyphen’; embracing being an outsider and being a ‘hybrid’ person.

New episodes every Thursday.

Can She Do It? Uncovering the Truth About Women in STEM
Living in the Hyphen Podcast Season 1 Episode 6 hosted by Leo Taylor-Jannati. Today’s interview is with the Engineer, Women in STEM Advocate and Founder of FLO London; Maawura Totoe.STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields have long been considered a "man's world." But women are breaking through gender barriers and making significant strides in these male-dominated industries. Maawura Totoe is one such woman who has made her mark as an engineer in a typically masculine job.Despite the progress made by women in STEM, the field still faces challenges. Bias, discrimination, and gender stereotypes are still present in many workplaces. In this interview, Maawura discusses the challenges she's faced and the strategies she used to overcome them.Maawura's belief is that the main challenge facing women in STEM is the lack of representation. Women make up only a small percentage of the STEM workforce and this can make it difficult to find female role models and mentors. Maawura believes that it is essential to increase the visibility of women in STEM and encourage young girls to pursue careers in these fields.Despite these challenges, Maawura remains optimistic about the future of women in STEM. She believes that the more women who enter these fields, the more diverse and inclusive they will become. By breaking down gender barriers and challenging stereotypes, women are helping to transform STEM into a more welcoming and equitable industry.Maawura is also the founder of FLO London; the ultimate social guide to London.Hope that you enjoy this great conversation!Maawura's LinksPersonal LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/maawura-totoe-a4397315b/FLO London Website - https://www.flolondon.co.uk/FLO London Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/flolondon_/Leo's LinksWebsite - https://www.leotjannati.com/TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@leotjannatiInsta - https://www.instagram.com/leotjannati/ Hosted on Acast. I Create Because I Refuse To Be Another Page In Someone Else's History Book
Living in the Hyphen Podcast Season 1 Episode 4 hosted by Leo Taylor-Jannati. Today’s interview is with the Venezuelan-American painter & vidéaste artist Lala Drona. Lala Drona (b. 1988) is a Venezuelan-American painter and videaste, born in Denver, Colorado. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado, Lala Drona has since published and exhibited her work internationally. Most recently, her videos and paintings exploring digital spaces and the female gaze, were shown at the Cite des Arts de Paris. Her paintings, videos, and writing explore the meta-body, alternate realities, and women in the digital world. The totality of her artwork contributes to, and exists within a fictional universe and mythology established online and then recontextualized in the physical world through paint on canvas, performance, and sculpture. She is based in Paris, France.Artist Statement:Lala Drona plays with the idea of the mirror and reflectivity, alternate realities, the transitions through these realities and how they manifest in our daily lives. Refusing to choose just one medium, she paints, writes, and creates short films, all which take place in her artistic universe. The voyage from the virtual to the real, and vice versa, play a significant role within her practice, and she represents these transition with her use of symmetry and grayscale. She re-contextualizes virtual media in reality through paint and canvas, tying everything together to create a cohesive and complex narrative.I hope you can sit back and enjoy this great conversation.
