EP. 37 Lorenzo Oss-Cech - UPDATE ”No Fault” Insurance in British Columbia
As a survivor of a very serious car accident, lawyer Lorenzo Oss-Cech knows the importance of focused client care and sound legal advice. Join us today as we look at recent developments and case law regarding the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia’s Enhanced Care system (or no fault system). This system was designed to increase client care and remove legal fees and other costs associated with motor vehicle accident claims decreasing costs to drivers. It also removed an individual’s right to sue and some think that puts injured and vulnerable people at risk. Whatever side you take, this is a quickly developing story that will be interesting to watch. The Notice of Civil Claim is also linked in our blog at: https://ascendlegal101.blogspot.com/ Lorenzo Oss-Cech is a partner with the firm Hutchison Oss-Cech Marlatt. Lorenzo has 30 years experience in brain injury settlements, general civil litigation, ICBC injury claims, medical malpractice, construction and building litigation, wealth management and estate planning, employment law, and corporate securities litigation. Having lived in numerous countries, Lorenzo is fluent in four languages. He is very involved in community activism and volunteering and is currently a board member and legal counsel for The David Foster Foundation. Important Note: People should seek their own legal advice tailored to their own situation. These discussions are for information and discussion only. EP. 26 Ramona Reynolds - The Sky Is Just The Beginning
I’m not gonna lie – I edited this speech. There it is. That’s the truth. I edited it because I called myself an “old lady” more than once in this talk. More than twice. That’s not going to fly! That is not kind to me; or true. So that’s that. Continuing with our exploration of mentorship this month, I was asked to speak to inspire young women in aviation and I came away completely inspired by them. What I wanted them to take with them: 1) You are powerful and you know how to feel and be fully empowered; 2) You are valuable. And I AM talking about money so start asking for what you are worth; 3) You have options – lots of them; 4) The sky is not the limit – it’s just the beginning; and 5) You are right on time! EP. 24 Christy Pratt- Realtime Court Reporter. Teacher. Leader. Mentor.
Today I am joined by Christy Pratt who is a visionary business leader and realtime court reporter in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has reported several landmark aboriginal trials and constitutional challenges, many of them exceeding 150 trial days. Before becoming a court reporter 25 years ago, Christy was a legal assistant and before that she worked in her family’s restaurant business. Christy ran her own court reporting firm in British Columbia for 15 years and she acquired four additional firms over the past 2 years. In July 2021, all five of these firms joined Veritext Legal Solutions who provide services across North America, and Christy is now the vice president for the Canadian Region. Christy is passionate about mentorship, and she embraces a growth mindset. She works with an executive coach, and her word for 2022 is ‘mindful.’ She finds joy and balance in cooking and travel, particularly when blended together! She will be going to a cooking school in Italy in October with her partner Erik, who lives in Washington State. EP. 22 Mike Doiron - Mind the Gap!

EP. 22 Mike Doiron - Mind the Gap!
This guy LOVES aviation! Today I am speaking with Mike Doiron who has been involved in many aspects of aviation for 50 years. The truth is that this short introduction doesn’t scratch the surface of his career accomplishments and experience in aviation. Today we get into the gaps in flight training; concerns about the level of competency of new aviators; and how we address those concerns. We discuss the role of Transport Canada; the difference between Transport Canada of today and in the 1980’s and 90’s; the experience of today’s regulators; and what he would watch for if he was a regulator today. Mike started as a dispatcher and progressed to Chief Flight Instructor and Chief Pilot of the Moncton Flying Club. He spent 19 years with Transport Canada where he held various positions including Superintendent of Flight Training, Regional Director of System Safety and National Director of Aviation Safety Promotions. In 1998, he left the government to take the helm of the Moncton Flight College as C.E.O. and Principal. He held that position for twelve years until leaving in July 2010 to start Doiron Aviation Consulting, which he still operates today working with aviation clients across the globe. He is the developer of the SMS Tookit, a program being used by the Air Transport Association of Canada as the model SMS structure for their various operators. Mike has received numerous awards throughout this career. He has flown over 50 types of aircraft. He has held the position of Senior Vice President of Safety Management Systems for Strategic Aerospace International Ltd. He sat as Chair of the Board of the Air Transport Association of Canada, and as a Director on the New Brunswick Aerospace and Defence Association Board, and is currently the Atlantic Canada Regional Representative of the Canadian Council of Aviation and Aerospace. Mike is also an accomplished and avid photographer.  To find out more about Mike and Doiron Aviation Consulting you can email him at: dacsafety54@gmail.com.
