Welcome to mindful moments, this breathing exercise is called box breathing. You imagine in front of your inner eye – a box. You start at the left lower corner and when you inhale you breathe yourself up the box, then you pause and wander with your mind across to the right upper side, then you exhale yourself down the box. Then you pause your breath again as you come back to the point where you started. This is a great exercise to do with kids, you can paint or draw the box on the wall, you can also find YouTube clips on that. It regulates a person because it’s very accurate in measurement of in and exhalation. The pauses between the breath calm the entire system down. If you find that people find it too hard the pause their breathing, then you can do something that’s called elevator breathing, that means that you only take the side up and down without the pause. Then you would have the same length of inhalation and the same length of exhalation. So, two variations of that – enjoy.
