Evaluating some NFL Coaching situations under scrutiny

Evaluating some NFL Coaching situations under scrutiny
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is rightfully taking heat for his “ready, fire, aim” approach, which has contributed to three in-season firings of head coaches, including Frank Reich after only 11 games this week. Having worked with many NFL ownership groups, I have thoughts on Tepper’s ownership style and where it appears to be going wrong. But Reich’s firing reflects more than just the whims of an impulsive owner. The bottom line is, making a difference on game days is the No. 1 responsibility for a head coach, and Reich simply could not make a difference with the Panthers roster as it was constructed. It might not be fair, but the pros and cons of the Carolina situation were well-known before Reich took the job. The lack of results speak for themselves through a 1-10 start to the season. If one looks around the league, coaches sitting on hot seats typically are failing in their ability to make a difference on game days. The situations with Carolina, the Buffalo Bills, the Washington Commanders, the New York Jets and Los Angeles Chargers should be viewed through this lens. Once we do that, we have a better idea which teams might be better off replacing their head coaches, and why. A Film Room game preview breakdown of week 13 in the NFL
This is a great week of football. Hopefully that means a great week of making some money as well. The best game of the season may well be upon us, along with being an NFC title game preview. The 49ers lost to the Eagles last year in the conference championship game and spent the last 10 months lamenting the absence of Brock Purdy in that game. Now, they get their chance to prove they’re the better team with Purdy and the rest of the roster in good health. Elsewhere, the Chiefs and Packers tangle at Lambeau Field on Sunday night. Green Bay has won two straight to improve to 5–6, and has a real chance at sneaking into the NFC playoff picture as a wild card. Meanwhile, Kansas City knows that with a victory (and the Ravens being idle on their bye week), a victory puts the Chiefs back into the AFC’s top seed. Let’s break down those games and three others from the NFL’s Week 13 schedule. Film Room Look at College Championship Week Games
College football’s all-important final weekend is here and first the first time in the College Football Playoff era, every game has significant meaning on Sunday’s final vote. With four unbeatens left standing in the Power Five ranks, including two-time defending national champion Georgia, there is still a clear-cut path for the favorites to reach the final four. However, one of the wildest facts heading into Saturday’s SEC Championship showdown is this — Alabama hasn’t lost a game in Atlanta since 2008 when Tim Tebow thwarted the Crimson Tide’s shot at a SEC title. Nick Saban knows it’s going to take the Crimson Tide’s best to pull it off, keep that streak alive and stay in the playoff conversation at the final four. Here are the final game predictions for Power Five title games this weekend along with the AAC final that will determine a New Year’s Six spot: Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. The 2024 transfer portal may not open until Dec. 4, but it is in full swing this week. Between the combination of grad transfers, entries at schools with a head coaching change and announcements of intent to enter, it feels like college football’s free agency frenzy is moving in earnest. While there are already a lot of big names in the portal, there are still plenty of names of interest mulling a decision or waiting until the official opening date of Dec. 4. And in talking to sources across college football staffs and those in the player management space, it seems that the biggest dominoes have yet to fall. These are a few of the names, among many more, we’re keeping an eye on talking to sources around the country. What's next for the Carolina Panthers

What's next for the Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper said he does possess patience despite firing three coaches in-season since buying the team. He fired Frank Reich from the position Monday, moving special teams coach Chris Tabor into the interim job. Tepper, who spoke at a Tuesday news conference, said he doesn’t think it will make it harder to hire a full-time coach despite having fired Reich (2023), Matt Rhule (2022) and Ron Rivera (2019) during the regular season. All about the CFB Playoff Scenarios

All about the CFB Playoff Scenarios
Heading into championship weekend, eight teams — Georgia, Michigan, Washington, Oregon, Florida State, Texas, Alabama and Ohio State (barely) — can still reach the College Football Playoff. That’s the highest there have been in the 10-year CFP era. Only three times have there been seven, in 2015, 2017 and 2019, but even in those, one or more teams would have needed to pull an unlikely conference championship upset. What stands out about this year’s field is the seven teams playing this weekend are all reasonable picks to win their respective title games. It wouldn’t take much to unleash chaos. Including what would arguably be the toughest decision the committee has ever faced: Alabama beating Georgia, and the No. 4 seed coming down to a 13-0 Florida State team without its star quarterback or the 12-1 two-time defending national champs. Even discarding the non-possibility of Iowa upsetting Michigan (you can throw this back in my face if the Hawkeyes pull off a 3-2 win), there are 16 possible combinations of results involving the ACC (Florida State-Louisville), Big 12 (Texas-Oklahoma State), Pac-12 (Washington-Oregon) and SEC (Georgia-Alabama) championship games. Below, I predict how the committee would rank the top five teams after each set of results. For these purposes, I’m predicting the committee on Tuesday drops Ohio State from No. 2 to No. 5 following its 30-24 road loss to Michigan, behind the four undefeated teams but highest of the one-loss teams, but knowing any of Oregon, Texas or Alabama would pass the Buckeyes if they win this weekend. Texas A&M hiring process revealed some of their internal problems

Texas A&M hiring process revealed some of their internal problems
For much of the day Saturday, Texas A&M appeared to be on a collision course with hiring Mark Stoops of Kentucky as its next coach. The Wildcats upset Louisville early in the afternoon, then the Aggies lost to LSU, and then the deck of the aircraft carrier was cleared for athletic director Ross Bjork to bring Stoops to College Station. This was so far down the road that sources that Stoops was telling some staff members, friends and boosters Saturday night he was leaving for College Station. What happened is what causes Athletic Administrations to hinder their Football Programs. CFB Week 13 Film Room Review

CFB Week 13 Film Room Review
What a weird (in the best way) day of college football. There were no earth-shattering upsets, but rivalry week delivered the type of wacky insanity that only rivalry week can provide. Florida State escaped. Washington escaped. Alabama escaped. Georgia escaped. Do you sense a theme? It was that kind of week across college football, the only sport in which massive coaching news happens at the same time as some of the biggest regular season games on the schedule. It was an awesome week of football, which, as I sit here typing while consuming the last ever Pac-12 After Dark, will come to a rather melancholy end. So for the final time this season, let’s dive deep into the week that was with College Football. We will hit on winners and losers from the week, break down the Heisman race and run through news and notes from every Power Five game. Football on Thanksgiving---How it came to be

Football on Thanksgiving---How it came to be
Thanksgiving, for many in the US, usually means a few things: food, family… and football. Every year, millions tune in to watch the annual Thanksgiving NFL games – last year’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Las Vegas Raiders garnered an audience of 38.5 million people, the most-watched NFL regular season game since 1990. (By comparison, 33.8 million tuned in to President Joe Biden’s inauguration). But how did America’s favorite sport become so linked to the holiday? College Football Rivalries--An Historical Look

College Football Rivalries--An Historical Look
It’s finally here, the week that hate — the clean, old-fashioned kind, mind you — is in fashion. If you’ve ever been accused of firing a contractor because he wore a rival’s shirt to your house, this is your time. Put the flag up outside your house. Get the group texts fired up. Add a little school spirit to your Zoom background for your next meeting. It’s Rivalry Week! To celebrate, we recap the excessive celebrations, tree desecrations and trash-can-fueled altercations from some of college football’s greatest games. Turn the fight song up and get the memes loaded up in your camera roll. Here we go. What to expect in College Football's Stretch Run
21-11-2023
What to expect in College Football's Stretch Run
Drama, edge-of-your-seat action and almost no upsets. It’s been the theme of 2023, and it crystallized in Week 12. Big favorites were tested, we saw a heart-pounding evening session — Washington holding off Oregon State and Mizzou nailing a last-second field goal to beat Florida — and no team that was both ranked (in the CFP rankings) and favored actually lost. The action itself is worth the price of admission. You didn’t have to search very hard to be entertained Saturday. But what has actually changed of late in the college football universe? Plenty, actually! And there’s plenty that hasn’t. Let’s take a look.
